What’s Being Planned — and Why You Haven’t Heard About It
Maverik Stores, Inc., a Utah-based corporation, has quietly submitted a proposal to the City of Elk Grove to build a 24/7 fueling station with a nearly 6,000 square foot convenience store and 25 pumps — including high-volume diesel fueling — at the corner of East Stockton Blvd and Grant Line Road.
The project requires a Conditional Use Permit and Minor Design Review and is currently listed on the City’s Private Development Projects page. Despite its scale and potential impacts, most Elk Grove residents are unaware of the proposal.
A fueling station of this scale at Elk Grove’s southern gateway could fundamentally change the character of the area, and once it’s built, it cannot be undone.
This proposal isn’t just about fuel. It’s about bringing:
Heavy diesel traffic onto roads already burdened by Amazon’s distribution center
24/7 fueling hub activity directly next to the SES Portuguese Hall and across from Sky River Casino
Public safety risks, pollution, and nonstop disruption in a location better suited for higher-value development that benefits Elk Grove families
The project is early in the City’s review process — which means there’s still time to raise concerns. But once approved, it will be nearly impossible to reverse.

The developers are presenting this project as a simple fueling station, but the plans reveal much more: a nearly 6,000-square-foot convenience store with two canopies covering 25 fueling pumps, including high-volume diesel fueling for trucks. This facility is designed to operate 24/7, bringing significant traffic, noise, and pollution to Elk Grove’s southern gateway.
Residents also deserve full transparency about the long-term plans for this site. Once a project of this scale is approved, additional phases or expansions can be proposed, locking the community into even greater impacts for decades.
